Before I say anything on the content, let me just say that I loved the plastic cover and the interwoven artwork between the see-through cover and hardcover of the book itself. They're so pretty. That said - I loved it. Utterly and totally loved it.
I hated - HATED! - the DUN DUN DUN Soprano's-like suspenseful endings of the past books and didn't have any high expectations from the first page, but it sucked me right in. This book took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Okay okay, so not all the mysteries were solved. We still don't know what race Barrons and his eight are. Christian's fate hangs in the balance. Dani's still out there, thinking Mac's out for her blood. In the Highlander books' canon, the fae elixir of immortality changes a mortal's attitude - but - Cruce himself doesn't even know exactly what he gave Mac, and the UK's elixir isn't the same as the fae elixir. The walls are down. Mac owes the Gray Lady a favor. The Seelies are left leaderless. For all we know, Mac's turning or already is an (or the only!) Seelie Princess left. Etcetera, list all of the other open-enders here, etcetera... but I just loved how KMM wove everything together.
The hair-pulling frustration I felt at not knowing certain things in the first four books fall into place. I am content.
Best KMM book, so far, IMO.
Definitely a recommended series. Worth every penny. And if you buy through Amazon, it's an absolute steal at fifteen dollars!

Shadowfever Karen Marie Moning 9780385341677 Books Reviews
Love consists of what is in your head, directed at your object of affection. During these five books, instead of experiencing the feelings of "love", these people have been anchored in alienating or distancing themselves from those feelings. The way in which they manifested themselves was on a feral natural, a coming together to have sex, much like the act of defecation. I-need-you-now. Let-us-join-so-that-this-lacune-may-be-fulfilled. Or conversely, a withholding, " I-am-complete-within-myself-and-do-not-need-you". Many may thrive on such love, but I do not. I prefer the spiritual give and take, the longing, the impediments that may stand in the way of complete fulfillment of self via the imparting, rather the withholding of information.
Wow! What a sizzling finale! Okay, I know it's not the end, but this book was an amazing way to end one problem yet leave it completely open for the next. I don't want to give anything away. I want you to read it yourself. I really don't think you will regret catching the Fever, and this book made sure that I had caught it and caught it hard.
There was so many surprising moments in this book that I couldn't find a place to start with them even I wanted to share little details. You all know how much I hate to include spoilers, but I'm telling you that with each book in this series it gets harder and harder to not share even the smallest details.
The beautiful thing about this book is that we get answers to most of our questions. We know where the Unseelie King is and what happened to the Concubine. We also learn more about V'lane and what happened to Cruce. Mac learns more about herself in this book and the terrifying secrets she holds. It's a must read!
4.5 Stars!
Because I couldn’t possibly write a review for each of these books individually, this is a review of the original Fever series (books 1 through 5). Not only would it be too difficult to review them on an individual basis, but it just wasn’t going to happen because I couldn’t stop long enough between books to even be bothered to write a review. I devoured these books.
This is so not my cup of tea. I’m a traditional girl. I like believability, relatability, and normalcy. I like original and unique stories but ones that could happen in real life. Fantasy or paranormal? Usually, we don’t mesh. This series is definitely an exception.
It did have drawbacks. It was long, at times very drawn out (mostly toward the end), and thoroughly confusing. I know it was the author’s intention to keep us guessing and on the edge of our seats, but it got to the point where I had hardly any idea what was going on and it became frustrating. There are so many different facets to this story, so many unnatural laws at play, that it’s hard to keep everything straight. The game is constantly changing, there’s so many players, and the board is unfathomably large. Every time you think you’re winning, Moning has rewritten the rules.
But in her defense, it does keep you interested. You become desperate to know what happens. You root for good to trump evil and you rethink what it means to be either one. I was so drawn in to this story and the unforgettable, gripping characters.
Mac and Barrons are damn near perfection. Their chemistry is like nothing I’ve ever experienced between two characters. This is the ultimate slow burn. It doesn’t get any slower and hotter than these two. Their tension is so powerful. They make you feel so much by doing and saying next to nothing. They are unforgettable.
Take a step out of your comfort zone and read these books. You need to experience this world and these characters. Karen Marie Moning’s imagination is a work of art. I think if my brain was capable of creating a story of this magnitude, I’d go insane. It’s probably why she writes. Lucky for us.
